The Project
To remove the architectonic barriers to the auditorium a lift has been designed to connect street level to the internal part of the Auditorium on the first floor. This lift will allow wheelchair users to access the concert hall without leaving their wheelchair, completely INDEPENDENTLY and SAFELY.

Opera Experience
OPERA Experience is the exhibition that combines innovation and involvement, to live an Opera experience out of the ordinary.
OPERA Experience at LOGGE del PAPA The initiative of Italian Opera in Siena to spread the experience of the Opera!
Saturday 3rd September and Sunday 4th September, the Opera will leave the walls of the Auditorium S. Stefano alla Lizza to be brought among the people.
From 16:00 pm to 20:00 pm, at the Logge del Papa (Siena), the artists of Italian Opera in Siena will perform free concerts of 10 minutes for a maximum of 20 spectators.
The performances will be repeated every 30 minutes for anyone who would like to try a new and authentic Opera experience.
Short, engaging and not demanding performances to let the emotions overwhelm the participants in an informal and familiar context.
No stage, no formalities! The event will take place in front of you, so close you can almost touch the artists.

OPERA Experience is the exhibition of Italian Opera in Siena that brings the opera not only on stage, but also in the audience, to make it become an integral part of the show.
Between meetings with artists and many surprises, the audience will have a direct contact with musicians and singers, thanks also to the intimate atmosphere space of the Auditorium Santo Stefano alla Lizza, where the proximity between spectator and artist breaks down the real and perceived distances.

The Auditorium Santo Stefano alla Lizza is an easy walk from anywhere in the city centre
From Piazza del Campo:
- Exit Piazza del Campo and walk along Via Banchi di Sopra, then continue onto Via Montanini
- Turn left onto Via del Sasso San Bernardino
- Turn right and continue straight along the La Lizza gardens which will be on your left
- After walking along the gardens to your left, the Auditorium Santo Stefano alla Lizza will be on your right
From Porta Camollia:
- Continue along Via Camollia
- After about 400m from Porta Camollia, turn right onto Via dei Gazzani
- Proceed along Via dei Gazzani, after a few tens of metres the Auditorium Santo Stefano alla Lizza will be on your left
- Arriving near Siena, via the “Firenze-Siena”highway, exit at SIENA OVEST
- At the end of the ramp, turn right following the signs to the City centre and Stadio
- Continue straight following the signs to the City centre and Duomo
- At the crossroads, turn left following the signs to the City centre, Altri parcheggi, Porta S. Marco and Duomo

- At the junction turn right onto Viale Vittorio Veneto

- Pass the bus station on your right and continue onto Viale Tozzi, along the La Lizza gardens which will be on your left

- Arriving near Siena, continue towards the ring road (it may be signed as the Firenze-Siena highway ) in the direction of Firenze and exit at SIENA OVEST
- At the end of the ramp turn left following the signs for SIENA S. Marco
- Go straight and at the crossroads turn left following the signs to the City centre, Altri parcheggi, Porta S. Marco and Duomo
- Continue straight following the signs to the City centre and Altri parcheggi

There are many free or paid parking paces (all are free from 8 pm to 8 am) along the main roads Viale Vittorio Veneto, Viale XXV Aprile and Viale dei Mille that are only a few minutes walk from the Auditorium.

Our Mission and History
Italian Opera in Siena is a music festival founded in 2013 by the ACLI LiberArte Cultural Association.
The Association’s mission is to bring Italian culture to a wide international audience. The task is accomplished with the experience and enthusiasm of the founding members and through collaboration with other Italian artistic organisations.
The Italian Opera in Siena festival aims to lead its audience into discovering Italian bel canto through a rich programme of concerts in Siena and throughout Italy: its concerts offer performances from artists who tread the stages of the world’s greatest Opera Houses such as La Scala Milan, the Arena di Verona, the Royal Opera House London etc.
Thanks to its highly-skilled professionals, numerous concerts (over eight hundred from 2013 to 2022), festival and private events have been organised under the Italian Opera in Siena brand, with a consistently high level offering and with great attention to its public.

Venue
The Santo Stefano alla Lizza Auditorium
A UNIQUE AND CHARMING SPACE WHERE YOU CAN ENJOY MUSIC WITH A COMBINATION OF ART AND HISTORY
The Auditorium exists in the spaces of the former Church of Santo Stefano, built in the 12th Century. The present building lost its original Romanesque style after reconstruction in 1671-1675. The main entrance leads into a large hall with an apse; inside the large nave, flanked by two prestigious altars, are important works of art.
From Past to Present
After falling out of use as a church the building was completely renovated in 2009 and transformed into a venue for cultural events.
In 2013 Italian Opera in Siena made it its principle location. The innate structural features and the superb restoration of the interior spaces definitely optimized the Auditorium’s acoustic quality, making it a wonderful place to be captivated by the magic of the music and the great voices of the performers.

The Santo Stefano alla Lizza Auditorium
The Italian Opera in Siena experience takes place in a historic building in the very heart of Siena, the Auditorio Santo Stefano alla Lizza.
Originally built as the church of Santo Stefano in the 12th century, after falling out of use as a church the building was completely renovated in 2009 and transformed into a marvelous concert venue.
Today it is a very special corner of Siena where you’ll be spellbound by the amazing voices of Opera singers.
